I recently had the honor of joining Kate Shepherd on The Creative Genius Podcast, and our conversation touched on so many themes close to my heart—intuition, grief, creativity, and the magic of connection.
Kate and I talked about my book My Mother in Havana, A Memoir of Magic & Miracle and the journey that led me to Cuba, where I discovered a new way to process grief and honor my mother’s spirit. We explored what it means to listen to those inner whispers, to follow creative callings even when they don’t make logical sense, and to embrace the unseen forces that shape our lives.
One of my favorite moments in our chat was discussing how Western culture often distances itself from magic, mystery, and ritual—yet these elements are essential to creativity and connection. Through my experiences with Afro-Cuban spiritual traditions, I found a way to keep my mother close, even decades after her passing.
If you’ve ever felt the nudge to explore something beyond the ordinary or want to understand how creativity can be a portal to healing and transformation, I invite you to listen to our conversation.
Tune in here:
With love,
Rebe
